Mid-Palatal Suture and Mini-Screw Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion

Research Inventy: International Journal of Engineering & Science , Volume 11 ~ Issue 9

Abstract

The mid-palatal suture represents the junction of right and left maxillary halves. It presents with a variable degree of ossification depending on the patient maturation status. Rapid palatal expansion (RPE) is commonly used in young adolescents to expand the maxilla and correct the posterior crossbite. Often in adolescents, mid-palatal suture is ossified and does not open in response to conventional rapid palatal expansion. In such patients, undesirable effects such as ulcers in the palatal tissue, root resorption and even necrosis of palatal tissue have been reported. On the other hand, mini-screw assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) appliances can lead to predictable opening of the mid-palatal suture compared to conventional RPE. MARPE appliances can cause more orthopedic change compared to RPE appliances. Thus, MARPE appliances may be a preferred alternative to RPE appliances in a majority of orthodontic patients

Research Inventy: International Journal of Engineering & Science , Volume 11 ~ Issue 9

Abstract

Construction practice of RC framed buildings with unreinforced infill walls is quite common nowadays in urban areas. Because of the absence of an infill wall in the ground storey for the purpose of parking, elimination of central columns for the purpose of the hall and reducing the size of columns may introduce a soft storey effect in that particular storey. Buildings having a soft storey effect are vulnerable to collapse due to earthquake load. This paper attempts to evaluate the seismic performance of RC framed buildings with the soft storey. In this study seismic response is carried out of a building with soft storey at different levels which is then compared to the structure having infill wall at all floor levels. Studies of structural parameters such as storey displacement, storey drift, and storey stiffness have been carried out using equivalent static analysis to investigate the influence of these structural parameters on the seismic behavior of buildings with soft storey.

Research Inventy: International Journal of Engineering & Science , Volume 11 ~ Issue 9

Abstract

Masonry structure is the oldest and popular mode of construction technology all over the world. During the seismic events, masonry buildings have shown their high vulnerability, RC frame elements have been introduced to improvement from seismic behavior, which transforms the original masonry into a combined RC-masonry structure. Since the 20th century in European, Mediterranean, southern American, and Asian countries including Nepal, combined RC-Masonry buildings have become more common. The hybrid structure suffered huge damage in major rural areas during the Gorkha earthquake. This paper describes seismic performance evaluation of RC-Masonry Hybrid residential buildings. Modeling of the building has been done in ETABS v18 software as per the Hybrid structure manual. As per the latest earthquake code IS1893:2016, the seismic analysis has been evaluated considering, story displacement, drift ratio, modal mass participation, base shear, mass irregularity, and shell stress

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) based interdisciplinary applications are becoming increasingly pervasive, with associated current and foreseeable impacts on services, production, labour, and education. Consequently, the integration of AI training into Engineering undergraduate courses is of great importance. However, each area of Engineering has its peculiarities, and those should be taken into consideration when teaching AI-related topics. Accordingly, this paper employs a didactic example widely used in undergraduate Mechanical Engineering courses as an entry point to the applied study of AI. The problem in question is determining an oblique projectile trajectory from noisy simulated experimental data taken along its route. This is an inverse problem that is here solved using Genetic Algorithms, which is an implementation of the so-called Evolutionary Learning.

Research Inventy: International Journal of Engineering & Science , Volume 11 ~ Issue 9

Abstract

The social behaviour of dressing among young people characterized by jeans/trousers or panties hanging low exposing the underwear is an under researched area in Zambia despite the practice being commonplace in the streets, stations, schools, colleges and universities. The objective of this study was to bring out views and opinions of Zambian women and girls on the practice of sagging. The study took a qualitative approach. It was conducted in 4 provinces of Zambia among 120 participants- 20 males and 100 females aged between 18 and 50 years. This study found that majority of women regarded sagging as an obscene, embarrassing and childish practice that should be banned. A small proportion of female participants found sagging largely entertaining as well as an expression of being current with fashion trends. The study recommends that while it may be democratic for young people to express themselves through the style of dressing they love, it may be more rewarding for them to pause and consider the local cultural values.
