Project Management as a Panacea to Navigate Insolvency in Construction Contracts
Opara, Hyginus Emeka
Nigeria
Research Inventy: International Journal of Engineering & Science , Volume 10 ~ Issue 10

Abstract

Several construction contracts were bedeviled by legal issues in Nigeria and with many of them ending in arbitration instead of ending up with handshake as they normally started due to insolvency either from contractor or client. This paper seeks to analyse the causes of insolvency in the Nigerian construction contracts. Secondary and primary sources of data were used. 52 respondents were used in the analysis representing a return rate of 69.3%. The responses from the questionnaires were ranked using the weighted mean score and percentages. Lack of project planning and control, underbidding were ranked first and second respectively among the twenty questions. Economic recession and unethical practice were ranked 20th and 19th respectively. The analysis of the finding showed that implementation of the functional elements of construction project management namely; planning, directing, controlling, organizing, coordinating and some external influence were the cause of insolvency in the construction contracts. A number of recommendations were made to mitigate insolvency in construction contracts..

Research Inventy: International Journal of Engineering & Science , Volume 10 ~ Issue 10

Abstract

The objective of this study is to show that production design may be performed using artificial neural networks (ANN) and time series analysis (Box-Jenkins) in the establishment of dry beans production amount model and in forecasting in Turkey by years. In the development of ANN and time series analysis, parameter of years was used as an input parameter and production amount was used as an output parameter. The efficiency of the model developed was determined using statistical parameters such as Mean Squared Error (MSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE).The results show that dry bean production will have a fluctuating course in production from 2019 to 2025. It was observed that ANN models gave better results than time series analysis in dry bean production prediction.

Research Inventy: International Journal of Engineering & Science , Volume 10 ~ Issue 10

Abstract

The case starts with the immediate pressure made by the founder, Tuan Haji Ruslin Ibrahim, on the management team as they need to decide the appropriate strategies to be implemented in attracting and retaining customers. Given the strong competition in the food and beverage industry, which is conquered by a couple of established companies (Ani Sup Utara and Old Town White Coffee), Pak Tam Café (PTC) had been struggling with maintaining their sustainability and profitability. To attract new customers and retain existing customers, PTC needs to implement appropriate strategies to make sure the number of customers and sales volume keep increasing.

Research Inventy: International Journal of Engineering & Science , Volume 10 ~ Issue 10

Abstract

Education is concerned with the development of the total personality of students and positive changes in their behavioural patterns. Citadels of higher learning are supposed to serve as a training ground for youths who are supposed to be leaders of tomorrow. However, the proliferation of indecent dressing among students of higher institutions has become a subject of debate among education stakeholders. Because of this, the study investigated students' perception of indecent dressing in Adamawa State citadel of higher learning. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. A multistage sampling technique was used in selecting 400 students from four citadels of higher learning in Adamawa State. "Perception of Students on Indecent Dressing Questionnaire" (PSIDQ) was the instrument used in data collection. The instrument was validated and the reliability tested using Cronbach alpha statistic. A reliability coefficient of 0.86 was obtained. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer.........

Research Inventy: International Journal of Engineering & Science , Volume 10 ~ Issue 10

Abstract

Variational integrators are powerful tools for advanced numerical solutions of mechanical problems appeared in mathematics and physical sciences. Compared to standard schemes they may be applied to complex systems where the computational cost is very high. In the present paper, we make an attempt to explore whether their methodology may be effective in adaptive time step variational integrators with the use of the space-time geodesic approach of classical mechanics while being combined with a simultaneous decrease, as much as possible, of the corresponding cost. Following the advantages of our previously deduced variational integrators, we now formulate a derivation of time adaptive high order exponential variational integrators. As a first step, this is successfully achieved for systems of which........

Abstract

A DEM is a quantitative model of a topographic surface in digital forms. The term Digital Elevation Model or DEM is frequently referred as digital representation of topographic surfaces or regular grid of spot heights. The study aims in derivation of high resolution analysis of elevation characteristics of hilly terrains such as contour, slope, aspect and hillshade using Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) DEM of 30mts resolution in GIS environment. The derived output is considered as input in ArcGIS to achieve slope, aspect and hillshade data of 12.4 mts resolution in the present study. The slope and aspect results show that the area has steeper slope in the western and northwestern directions. Thus high resolution DEM data has immense application in economic designing of railway tunneling, bridge constructions especially in hilly terrains and highly useful for the natural disaster management studies.

The stability of exponential variational integrators as key role tool in studying multibody holonomic systems

Research Inventy: International Journal of Engineering & Science , Volume 10 ~ Issue 10

Abstract

The role of stability of high order exponential variational integrators (EVIs) when they are applied to mechanical systems with holonomic constraints, is extensively examined and discussed. This class of geometric type integration schemes are determined through a discretization of the variational Hamilton's principle and the definition of a characteristic discrete Lagrangian. The formulation of exponential interpolation functions is tested on the discrete Euler-Lagrangian equations in the presence of constraints. The resulting schemes are then applied on dynamical multibody systems with holonomic constraints, choosing the double pendulum as a concrete example. The long-time behavior of the EVIs, which reflects their property of stability was found to be very good compared to that of other traditional methods.
